Hairy Bittercress – A Wild Treat for Small Pets

Published on 14 April 2025 at 16:45

Hairy bittercress might not look like much, but it’s one of spring’s best wild forages—and yes, it’s floof-safe.

This tiny plant is often mistaken for a weed, but it’s safe for guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises, degus, rats, mice, and hamsters, when picked fresh and clean.

It’s:

• Rich in natural vitamin C

• Gentle on sensitive tummies

• Naturally hydrating

• Full of foraging variety and texture

That’s why I include it in some of my seasonal blends at Guinea Gourmet Treats.

I only use handpicked, clean, pesticide-free bittercress—air-dried to preserve its benefits and flavour.

It’s these small additions that make a big difference to your pet’s wellness.
